Wedding Photography FAQs

1. How far in advance should we book our San Diego wedding photographer?

It’s best to book your wedding photographer in San Diego at least 9–12 months before your wedding date, especially during peak wedding season (May through October). Early booking ensures availability and allows time to plan engagement sessions, timelines, and creative ideas for your day.

2. What is included in your San Diego wedding photography packages?

Our wedding photography packages include full-day coverage, professional editing, an online gallery, and high-resolution images ready for download and printing. We also offer engagement sessions, a second photographer, and custom wedding albums for couples who want the complete fine-art experience.

3. Do you offer engagement photography sessions in San Diego?

Yes! We offer engagement sessions at beautiful local locations such as Balboa Park, La Jolla Cove, and Coronado Beach. These sessions help you get comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding and capture timeless portraits of your love story.
I drive all over San Diego County, and these are just a few of the many incredible spots where I create images. Whether you’re drawn to the cliffs of Sunset Cliffs, the charm of Del Mar, or the golden light in Carlsbad, I’ll help you find the perfect location that fits your story.

4. How much does a San Diego wedding photographer cost?

The cost of wedding photography in San Diego varies depending on coverage, location, and add-on services. Our packages start at $1,500 and are fully customizable to fit your needs. Every wedding is unique, and we focus on providing exceptional value and premium artistry for every couple.

5. Will you travel outside of San Diego for destination weddings?

Absolutely! Although we’re based in San Diego, we photograph weddings across Southern California and beyond. We love capturing destination celebrations and will help coordinate travel logistics and custom pricing for your location.

6. How long does it take to receive our wedding photos?

You’ll receive a proof gallery within 2 weeks of your wedding so you can relive your favorite moments while the excitement is still fresh. Your final edited gallery will be delivered within 6–8 weeks.
We also provide sneak peeks within the first few days, so you have something beautiful to share right away.

7. What is your photography style?

My style blends fine art with studio lighting, documentary storytelling, and natural, candid moments. I focus on authentic emotion, beautiful light, and timeless imagery — the kind of photographs that will feel as meaningful decades from now as they do today.

8. Do you offer elopement photography in San Diego?

Yes! We offer elopement and intimate wedding packages throughout San Diego County — including beach elopements, courthouse ceremonies, and private celebrations. No matter how big or small your day, every couple deserves artful, professional photographs that capture their connection.

9. Can we meet our photographer before the wedding?

Of course! I always encourage a pre-wedding consultation, either in person or via video call. It’s a great opportunity to discuss your vision, timeline, and must-have shots. Building that connection beforehand ensures your images feel authentic, comfortable, and true to you.

10. How do we book Portraits San Diego for our wedding day?

Booking is simple — just fill out the contact form on PortraitsSanDiego.com, and I’ll reach out to confirm your date, send package details, and secure your booking with a signed agreement and retainer.

11. How many images will we get?

Since every wedding is unique, it’s hard to quote exactly how many images you’ll receive. However, past experience has shown an average of 50–75 images per hour of coverage.
That said, I believe in quality over quantity. A gallery of 600 well-curated, meaningful images carries far more emotional impact than 1,000+ repetitive shots. Each image is carefully selected and edited to tell your love story beautifully from start to finish.

12. Should we assign a family member to help during family portraits?

Yes — I highly recommend designating one family member or close friend who knows your guests well to help during family portraits. This ensures no one is missed and the process moves smoothly, allowing you to relax and enjoy your day while I focus on capturing everyone who matters most.
If you’d like a family portrait list to work from, I can provide one to make this part of the day even easier.

13. Do you provide RAW images?

I don’t provide RAW photos. That would be like asking a writer to hand over their rough draft — it’s unfinished. Would the Harry Potter series be as good if it was released as a rough draft?
RAW images are like a diamond in the rough — they need polishing to bring out their full beauty. That’s where I come in. You’re not only hiring me to take photos on your big day but also to apply my artistic eye and technical skill during post-production.
Each image is carefully refined to reach its full potential. When your final gallery is ready, it will look cohesive, emotional, and timeless — a true work of art.

14. Do you have liability insurance?

Yes — Portraits San Diego is fully insured, and I’m happy to provide your venue or vendors with a certificate of coverage upon request. This ensures full compliance with venue requirements and peace of mind for everyone involved.

15. Do you have back-up equipment?

Absolutely! I wouldn’t dream of photographing someone’s big day without back-up equipment. I always bring multiple camera bodies, lenses, batteries, and memory cards to every wedding to ensure your memories are protected no matter what.

16. We booked! Now what?

First of all — we do a little happy dance!
Afterward, I’ll be in touch to schedule your engagement session, which should take place about 3–6 months before your wedding date. I’ll also check in periodically to see how your planning is going, offer guidance, and answer any questions. And of course, I’m just a phone call or email away if you need anything at all.
